Stump and Root Removal with Fire and a Come Along

Using a large fire, I burned a mimosa stump for about 8 hours. While it didn't burn down completely due to its moisture content, it greatly reduced the size of the large roots, some of which where almost as big as the tree itself. This allowed me to then cut the roots free without getting my chainsaw into the dirt and then use the come-along to rip them out.

The come-along is a super useful tool for jobs like this or emergencies. I picked up this Dayton-made come-along (also known as a ratchet winch) for $15 at the flea market.
