In this video I take an off-the-shelf magnetic sculpture and completely re-make the base for it using concrete and epoxy resin.
This is a beginner level tutorial that requires a 50mm silicone cube mould, which is available quite cheaply on ebay, and access to a printer capable of printing onto transparency film.
You could easily substitute the galaxy swirl image for a picture of your choice, and use anything magnetic for the sculpture itself, such as paperclips, nuts & bolts or steel balls.
