Rusty Hatchet restoration with handle milled from a plum tree branch

About a year ago I cut down a diseased plum tree, kept the better bits and left them out in the open to dry and get rained on. I figured using a curved branch would simplify making a hatchet handle and be stronger as the grain would run in the direction of the handle. I've since changed my mind but this was interesting anyway. The next handle will be straight, probably on a camp axe. I'll spend a bit more time getting the handle to fit the socket too.

The 8 sided handle is quite comfortable but the head to handle angle isn't quite right.
