Efflorescence on Mortar and Brick Basement

Deterioration of mortar from efflorescence on a Brick wall. Over time the mortar in between the bricks deteriorates from moisture weakening the mortar. This shows up as a dust or powder on the floor below. This can be stopped by applying a silicate based sealer such as Radon Seal. this works by penetrating the mortar and strengthening it which stops the deterioration. This also helps to slow down the migration of moisture through the wall. Temporarily this can be cleaned up, HEPA vacuumed and treated with an antimicrbial.
