DIY project: building hollow body wood surfboard using Entropy Resins Epoxy

John from Maeda Wood Co. working on one of his custom hollow body wood surfboards from his wood shop in San Diego, California.

For this project, John used Paulownia wood. Paulownia wood is known for it's light grain and even lighter weight, making this ideal for surfboard building. When finished, this hollow body wood surfboard will weigh less than 6 lbs - which makes it great for travel.

John wanted to build a surfboard that pays homage to the origins of surfing but that didn't have to compromise on the performance characteristics. John teamed up with his fighter pilot buddy, Chuck, who designed a hollow body surfboard that has both of those key elements in mind.
